Meet The Judges

Rob Yescombe

Award Winning Writer, Valve                                                          

Rob has worked on blockbuster franchises including THE DIVISION, BLADE RUNNER and STAR WARS, along with experimental indie games like QUBE: DIRECTOR’S CUT and RIME. His screenplay OUTSIDE THE WIRE landed on the 2014 Brit List, and he recently wrote the feature film GOOD GAME for Universal Pictures.

An early adopter of VR, he wrote FARPOINT for Sony Entertainment and THE INVISIBLE HOURS for Tequila Works and Game Trust.

Ted Schilowitz

Futurist in Residence, Paramount Pictures                                  

Ted spends his time in a unique role in the motion picture entertainment industry.

As the Futurist at Paramount pictures, Ted works with studio leadership and the technology teams at Paramount / Viacom, exploring forms of new and emerging technologies, with an emphasis on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

Prior to joining Paramount, Ted was the Futurist at 20th Century Fox, where he worked on the evolving art, science and technology of advanced interactive visual storytelling. He was part of the creation team for the Martian VR and Wild VR experiences, which premiered at CES and Sundance as groundbreaking projects that pushed the envelope of Virtual Reality storytelling.

Ted was an integral part of the product development team at RED Digital Cinema as a founding member and the company’s first employee. The Red One and Epic cameras have made a significant impact on the Motion Picture Industry, with many of the world’s biggest movies now being shot with these ultra high resolution digital movie cameras.

Ted is one of the founders and creators of the G-Tech product line of advanced hard drive storage products. As one of the most recognized brands in that industry, they are implemented worldwide at the highest levels on cinema, episodic television, sports and news production.

Before being part of the founding teams at RED Digital Cinema and G-Tech, Ted was on the team that developed and launched the Macintosh desktop video division of AJA Video Systems, creating professional video products in tandem with Apple. These products are used on a massive scale worldwide for video production and post at the highest levels, on many of the world’s biggest movies, TV series and sporting events.

Ted has presented worldwide at numerous conferences on the advancements in next generation visual experiences for the movie, television and, interactive entertainment industries. He’s been featured in Wired, Variety, NY Times, LA Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, NBC, CNET, Studio Daily, Videography, Film and Video, DV Magazine, TV Technology, HD Video Pro, Engadget, Gizmodo, Millimeter, American Cinematographer, MacWorld, Post Magazine, Popular Science, and countless other publications discussing his areas of passion and exploration.

Evette Vargas

Creator/Executive Producer of TV, Film and Immersive Storytelling

Evette Vargas is an award-winning writer, director, producer and immersive storyteller. Named by the New York Times as an “Artist to Watch,” Vargas’ work includes series for Amazon, MTV, Bravo, DirectTV; and interactive content for Fast And Furious, Lord Of The Rings trilogy and Madonna. Vargas exec produced, wrote and directed her digital series Dark Prophet, starring Henry Rollins, which was in contention for two Emmys and premiered at Sundance. Vargas is currently penning the Mix Master Mike feature biopic for Impossible Dream Entertainment and the drama series Tinacious, with Marc Guggenheim and Rosario Dawson serving as EPs. Vargas wrote and is set to direct The Current War VR Experience, as a companion piece for the film, starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Vargas created the Immersiveplay, the industry standard for immersive scriptwriting for Final Draft and spoke at the Cannes Film Festival on VR Storytelling. A member of the Writers Guild of America, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and Producers Guild of America, Vargas was born in the Bronx and learned to tell stories at the dinner table where the imagination ruled. Vargas kick boxes; collects action figures, typewriters and shoes; has past lives as a DJ, a fashion designer, and is a recovering New York City advertising Art Director. Bilawal Singh Sidhu

VR/AR Producer - Google                                                                  

Bilawal is a Creative Technologist and Mixed Media Producer. A balance of technical & functional with strong design skills, he thrives solving challenging problems at the intersection of emerging tech, design, art and business. His current area of focus is spatial computing platforms like VR/AR and the spatial mediums they enable, such as passive 360 video, pass-through AR and pseudo-interactive 360 experiences.

Bilawal is an avid speaker, writer and evangelist, striving to remove the veil of mystery around real-time and live-action VR/AR production. Possessing the ability to tailor conversation to stakeholders based on background, he is able to serve as a bridge in teams and organizations, speaking fluent Silicon Valley, Hollywood, and Enterprise, as well as Hindi and Punjabi.

Bilawal graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a B.S. in Computer Science and Business Administration with a focus in 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Big Data Analytics and UI/UX Design. He enjoys spending his free time meditating and shredding on Ibanez guitars.

Jake Sally

Director of Immersive Development, RYOT                      

At RYOT, Jake spearheads development of immersive content designed to expand and explore the human experience across the full range of emerging platforms including 360 video, VR and AR. His projects have premiered at countless film festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Sheffield and Tribeca. Jake began work at WME-IMG in the Motion Picture Literature Department, where he learned how to transition indie-darling writers and directors into commercial Hollywood. After years refining his knowledge of narrative storytelling, Jake transitioned to Hasbro Studios. While at Hasbro, Jake’s career became focused on activating Hasbro’s massive portfolio of IP, ranging from TRANSFORMERS to G.I. JOE, across TV, film, toys, digital and licensing. Spotting the rise of commercially available virtual reality in 2014, he brought his knowledge of brands and storytelling to Two Bit Circus. While at Two Bit Circus, he helped formalize their VR Department, managed development for original content and lent his creative vision to commercial work for clients ranging from Google to Fox.

Sarah Stumbo

XR Producer, Unity                                                                                   

Sarah is a producer on the Made with Unity team specializing in XR (virtual, augmented and mixed reality) development. As a developer herself, Sarah spends much of her time exploring tools and techniques for XR, film and game creation. Her mission is to empower developers and artists to create stunning interactive experiences. Before becoming a Made with Unity producer, Sarah was a technical evangelist who led countless workshops and trainings on Unity development. Prior to Unity, she worked as a software engineer at VR companies Pixvana and WorldViz.

Jonny Ahdout

Director of Development, Within                                                  

Jonny Ahdout is Director of Development at WITHIN, a virtual and augmented reality technology company and distribution platform founded by Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin. At WITHIN Jonny develops and produces original VR and AR projects, bringing together talent in an effort to create transformative immersive experiences. Jonny began his career as an actor, starring in DreamWorks' House of Sand and Fog and Fox's 24, before turning to feature film development at Marc Platt Productions in Los Angeles. Jonny’s recent projects at WITHIN include Tyler Hurd’s Chorus and Chris Milk and Aaron Koblin’s Life of Us, both shared VR experiences that turn participants into protagonists in spectacular, otherworldly, and bonding adventures. Jonny’s projects have been featured at Sundance New Frontier, SXSW VR Cinema, TED Conference, Tribeca Immersive Arcade, and many other festivals and LBEs worldwide.

Marcie Jastrow

SVP of Immersive Media, Head of Technicolor Experience Center

Marcie Jastrow is an industry veteran with over 20 years in the Entertainment business. Currently the SVP of Immersive Media at Technicolor, as well as the Head of the Technicolor Experience Center (TEC), Marcie is dedicated to bringing artists, technologists, and partners together to build the future of immersive media. Since the opening of the TEC in July, 2016, Marcie has consulted on many immersive projects and has provided her insights in dozens of interviews, published articles, and speaking engagements. Focused on igniting VR, AR, and beyond, Marcie sits on several boards including the Interactive Emmys, Periscope, and BAFTA. In 2018, she was honored with the Advanced Imaging Society’s ‘Distinguished Leadership Award’, which recognizes creative, productive and forward-thinking efforts in visual technology and emerging content. Prior to her current role, Marcie was responsible for growing Technicolor’s post production sales pipeline as SVP of Sales. Before joining Technicolor, she served as EVP of Sales at Laser Pacific, which Technicolor acquired in 2011, as well as SVP of Sales at Modern Video Film for over eight years.

Heather Raikes

Creative Director, Mixed Reality Studios at Microsoft

Heather Raikes is currently Creative Director for Mixed Reality Studios at Microsoft and has been working in the virtual and mixed reality industry since 2015. For the past two decades, she has pioneered innovation in art, design and technology – probing, discovering and creating next-generation sensory experiences.

Heather has a PhD from DXARTS, the University of Washington’s Center for Digital Arts & Experimental Media, specializing in mixed reality and immersive experience design, and a deep creative background in digital performance and body/technology interface.

Tim Lambert

Co-Founder at Prosper XR                                              

Tim co-founded SpecScout.com, a content management system that reliably and consistently predicts box office hits and award-winners by reviewing and ranking scripts based upon qualitative and quantitative metrics. From working at Spyglass Entertainment, to producing commercials, to managing screenwriters , he has over 15 years of experience in entertainment. He is also co-founder of Prosper VR.

Susan Burgess

Lead Producer, HTC Creative Labs at HTC Vive                                    

A storyteller at heart and technologist by profession, Susan has spent her entire career in the intersection of narrative and tech, catalyzing design and connecting dots. Her journey began at Microsoft as part of the nascent field exploring design and user interaction. That continued through her tenure at HTC during the mobile revolution. Today, as Lead Producer at Creative Labs, Susan played an integral part in the development of the HTC Vive, Vive Video and Viveport.

Adam Cosco

Lumiere Award Winning Immersive Director                                              

Before delving into the virtual reality space, Adam won several awards for his screenwriting and directing, including the Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition, the Script Pipeline Screenwriting Competition and the Vimeo Awards. In October 2015, HD Video Pro wrote an article called A New Medium Emerges about Adam's innovative virtual reality storytelling.

His third VR film, Knives, incorporates his editing style with an entirely fluid camera. It was nominated for a Lumiere Award, a Proto Award and won Best VR Experience at the 2017 Sitges Film Festival, which marked the first time this award has been given in 50 years of this acclaimed film festival's history. His next VR film, Rose-Colored, premiered at VRLA and won the 2018 Lumiere Award for Best Live Action VR Film.

He is currently in pre-production on his sixth VR film, entitled HYPER REAL.

Brett Leonard

Film Director                                                                                                 

For over 25 years, Brett Leonard has been at the forefront of the digital media revolution - whether it be as Director/ Writer of the groundbreaking cult-classic film Lawnmower Man, which introduced the concept of Virtual Reality to popular culture - or being the first to pioneer modern stereoscopic techniques and photo-realistic CGI in his hit IMAX 3D film “T-Rex” - or introducing American audiences to Russell Crowe and many other talents both in front of and behind the camera - Brett’s work as a visionary Director/Producer/Futurist has always pushed the edge of innovation in the entertainment industry, and continues to do so with a project slate at his company Studio Lightship, focused on creation of VX (Virtual eXperience) executed in a hybrid approach with Film and Television. Studio Lightship is dedicated to defining a platform for truly interactive narrative VX StoryWorlds for the emerging mediums of Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Jenna Seiden

Consultant & Board Member, Prev: Vive, Microsoft, CAA

Jenna Seiden, most recently Head of Content Acquisition & Partnerships for HTC Viveport's home, mobile and LBE storefronts, is currently a board member and consultant for VR, AR, LBE, eSports and Blockchain based companies. She has spent her career in both creative and business positions in the entertainment and technology sectors. At HTC she was responsible for building the global & China content portfolios for the app store, managing content operations and structuring deals with VR creators and developers across games, entertainment, sports, education, enterprise, lifestyle, creativity and utility among others. She also represented HTC in securing the Ready Player One theatrical marketing partnership with Warner Bros. and setting the initial content strategy marrying VR studios with the IP.

Prior to HTC, Jenna was the VP of Distribution at Maker Studios working with the multi-channel network's 50K+ You Tube talent to monetize their over 15M video assets off the platform. She set up the network's content operations team to deliver assets while negotiating deals with third-party distributors such as Amazon, AOL, DailyMotion, Roku, Yahoo, Modern Times Group and more. She built Maker's first OTT app, negotiated TV & book deals for some of the Top 50 talent and initiated the network's video game publishing business.

Before Maker, Jenna spent time at Xbox where she was the executive who spearheaded the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn production as VP of Content Development and Strategic Partnerships at Microsoft Studios. To help re-launch the multi-billion dollar franchise, she fought to reach new audiences on the digital platforms they now populated and produced a digital-first series come feature-length film using top Hollywood acting, writing and production talent. She negotiated distribution deals with distribution platforms such as Machinima and Netflix. And alongside the now current GM for Publishing at Microsoft Studios, Jenna also built the building blocks for Xbox's entertainment initiative, Microsoft Entertainment Studios.

Jenna served as an agent in the video games division at CAA where she represented top AAA and indie game studios to secure publishing deals for original console, PC and mobile titles. Her department represented the interests of such companies such as Respawn Entertainment, Insomniac Games, Double Fine Productions, Gearbox, ThatGameCompany, Giant Sparrow, The Odd Gentlemen, Valhalla Game Studios, and Epic Games. In addition, she represented the interests of the agency's acting, writing & producer clients in the interactive space such as setting up games divisions for Jerry Bruckheimer with MTV Games and Gore Verbinski with Universal Studios, as well as partnering TV & film writers with franchises such as Call of Duty, Command & Conquer, Far Cry and more.

She began her career in sports marketing at the NBA managing sponsorships for both the NBA and WNBA after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania. She received her MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Ian Forester

CEO & Co-Founder VR Playhouse                                    

Ian Forester is the CEO and Co-Founder of VR Playhouse, a VR creative studio based in Los Angeles since 2014. Since founding VR Playhouse Ian has become a prolific producer, director, and thought leader in the immersive media space. He is a regular guest on panels, podcasts, and convention stages where he shares his knowledge and insight. He is a member of the Consumer Technology Association’s Working Group for VR/AR, the Entertainment Advisory Board of RIT, and has been a panelist, presenter, or speaker at VRTO, SVVR, Siggraph, Digital Hollywood, The Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, and SXSW where he has returned for three years running. Podcast appearances include Kent Bye’s “Voices of VR” and “It’s All Happening” with Zach Leary, who said of Ian, “He may be poised to become one of the great thought leaders of our generation.”

Shannon Ryan

Creative Producer, Baobab Studios                                  

Shannon is currently a Creative Producer at Baobab, the Emmy award-winning VR studio, where she is heading up the development and pre-production effort on current and future projects. She started her career in narrative animated virtual reality when she joined Oculus Story Studio as Head of Development in 2016.

Prior to working in VR, Shannon spent the bulk of her entertainment career in development and production at Pixar Animation Studios, where she worked closely with many of the studio's directors in the ideation and incubation phase. Shannon played a key creative production role on Pete Docter's Up, overseeing the story development process through post production. She also led large animation teams on Cars 2 and The Good Dinosaur, in addition to managing front-end departments such as Art, Story, Editorial, Layout and Characters throughout her 12-year Pixar tenure.

Shannon is passionate about mentoring new talent, fostering creatively fulfilled teams and solving the challenging problems presented by immersive storytelling.

Jesse Damiani

Editor at Large - VRScout & CEO of Galatea

Jesse Damiani is Editor-at-Large of VRScout and CEO of Galatea, a screenwriting and project management tool for VR and AR stories. Recent XR coverage appears in Adweek, Billboard, Entrepreneur, Forbes, and Quartz; with syndication in The New Digital Storytelling textbook, Columbia Journalism Review, and REDEF. He also served as curriculum writer/editor for Google Daydream's "VR and 360 Video Production" course on Coursera and runs the "Immersive Writers and Storytellers" group. Last year he was interviewed as an expert source in the AP guide for immersive journalism and was listed as a top global VR influencer by Onalytica.

Samantha Gorman

Co-Director - Tender Claws                        

Samantha Gorman is the co-director of game studio Tender Claws. She specializes in writing for interactive media across genres including expanded cinema, games and virtual reality.

Tender Claws’ first release PRY (prynovella.com) was one of Apple’s 25 best apps of 2015, a finalist for the Future of Storytelling Prize and a finalist in IGF for “Excellence in Narrative.”

Following PRY, Tender Claws has grown and released “Virtual, Virtual Reality” (VVR) which draws on her seven years of experience in developing Virtual Reality at Brown University’s CAVE VR studio. VVR won the 2017 Google Play Award for “Best VR Experience” and Unity Awards Finalist “Best VR Game” among others.

Tender Claws walks the line between art/experimentation and entertainment. Following this mission, their next game is a long-form AR experience in collaboration with Google about a virtual pet AI fish that feeds on people’s emotions to learn and grow. In addition to running Tender Claws, Samantha is a Ph.D. research fellow in Media Arts and Practice at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. She is based in LA.

Brian Frager

Lead VR/AR Experience Producer - Technicolor

A specialist in the emerging world of interactive storytelling, Brian bridges the technical and creative elements through a diverse background in film production, coding and game engine development. He has created cutting-edge 3D visualization and virtual reality experiences for Technicolor, Zoic Labs, Crossfader, and the USC Entertainment Technology Center. Key technology partners on past projects include volumetric video company 8i, photogrammetry specialists Realtra, high-precision drone and robotics maker Prenav, and visual effects houses Zoic Studios and MPC. He is the lead VR/AR Experience Producer at the Technicolor Experience Center, exploring projects that push the limits of interactive Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality Experiences across various industries.

Jessie Kim

Jessie has conceptualized campaigns and produced content that engages millions. She co-founded Prosper VR, a virtual reality content creation studio that specializes in interactive and cinematic immersive content. Jessie wrote the Daydream Impact 101 curriculum for Google and mentored NASA/JPL in Google's first ever VR Creator Lab.

Dylan Harris


Beginning his producing career in traditional filmmaking, Dylan has thus far licensed two feature films to Netflix. His latest, A Week in Watts (Executive Producer Shaquille O’Neal) will be streaming this spring. As a producer and consultant for immersive 360 and VR content, Dylan has worked with brands including Coca-Cola, Google, Marriott, Chevron, and the Sundance Institute.

Nathalie Mathe

Founder at NativeVR                                    

Nathalie Mathe is an award winning Virtual Reality creator and animation and documentary shorts director. She runs NativeVR, a VR studio crafting unique experiences that celebrate diversity, in which she created and produced UTURN, an interactive 360 comedy examining gender inequalities in the tech industry. Over the past four years she contributed to dozens of VR projects for Google, Chevrolet/Facebook, USPS, Jaunt and Condition One. For twelve years, she was one of the few women creating visual effects on feature films like Fast & Furious 6, Skyfall and Dark Knight Rises.

Spencer Burnham

Creative Producer - WITHIN

Spencer Burnham is an LA based VR/AR creator and producer. He worked with brands such as Facebook, Google, DiscoveryVR, Viacom, and The Onion. Spencer has worked on projects that have played at CES, Comic-Con, Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, World VR Forum, and Cannes. He has held positions as Director of Immersive Production at Vrideo, Creative Director at Moth + Flame, and is currently an Associate Producer at WITHIN. He was born and raised in Memphis, TN, and is a graduate of Wesleyan University.

Matthew Celia

Co-Founder at Light Sail VR                                              

Matthew Celia is a creative visionary with over a decade of experience spanning technology, film production and entrepreneurial endeavors. Celia fuses his knack for crafting authentic narratives and technical prowess across all sectors of VR production to create compelling cinematic storytelling. His work has amplified the impact of immersive content for such top brands as GoPro, ABCdigital, Google, Princess Cruises, and National Parks, among others.

Celia studied Film Production at Chapman University, but discovered a predictive passion for VR during his grade school years by recreating Shakespeare’s Globe Theater into an interactive 3D Quicktime experience. An entrepreneur from early on, Celia spent his teenage years running a graphic design company that funded his B.F.A degree. His diverse skillset and enterprising drive fueled a rapid break into the industry, helming projects for top clients including Warner Bros., NBC and Chevrolet, before launching Light Sail VR in 2015. Celia has also directed a feature-length documentary, “Off the Floor,” which experienced a successful festival run in the United States.

Jessie Kim


Jessie has conceptualized campaigns and produced content that engages millions. She co-founded Prosper XR, an immersive content creation studio with a specialty in robotics. Jessie wrote the Daydream Impact 101 curriculum for Google and mentored NASA/JPL in Google's first ever VR Creator Lab. In the past year, she has produced over 17 VR experiences in various roles, from Director, Director of Photography and VFX Supervisor. The Dance with Kittens VR experience she directed for The Humane Society garnered over 7M views in 30 days. Prosper XR has created content for brands such as Disney, Live Nation, Hulu, Google, Buzzfeed and Netflix.

Tim Lambert

Co Chair                                                                                   

Tim is the CTO and Co-Founder of Prosper XR. On any given day you may find Tim building a robot, developing an interactive VR experience, or coaching a screenwriter on how to write for the fresh medium of VR. He has over 15 years of experience in the entertainment industry. From working at Spyglass Entertainment, to producing commercials, to managing screen writers, he’s a guru of storytelling. He created SpecScout.com, which has the largest vault of Film and TV scripts circulating Hollywood, graded, scored, with loglines and synopses that are reviewed by major studios, Film & TV producers. After SpecScout merged with Slated, he decided to jump into immersive mediums.

With Jessie, Tim created the smoothest way to move a VR camera on the ground or in the air that doesn’t create VR sickness, the Rover, Rover X, and Rover XL.

Dylan Harris
